About Jewish Universe
One people, many homes.
Jewish Universe is a home for stories of Jewish life as it is actually lived — in big cities and small villages, in long-established communities and surprising new ones, across every continent on the map.
We started Jewish Universe with a simple belief: that the Jewish world is far larger, more varied, and more colorful than any single community can see on its own. A family lighting Shabbat candles in Buenos Aires, a congregation rebuilding a centuries-old synagogue in Eastern Europe, students learning Hebrew for the first time in Kampala, a baker shaping challah in Brooklyn — these are all part of the same story, and we want to tell it.
What we cover
News. Clear, fair reporting on the events shaping Jewish communities around the world — from policy and security to culture, religion, and the everyday milestones that matter to real people.
Culture, history & traditions. The holidays, foods, music, languages, and customs that connect Jews across time and distance — and the beautiful local variations that make each community its own.
Community & diaspora stories. Profiles of the people and places that rarely make headlines: the volunteers, the elders, the young leaders, and the communities holding on to identity far from any major Jewish center.
How we tell stories
We aim to be warm without being soft, and serious without being cold. We believe good journalism and genuine respect for people can live in the same sentence. We listen before we write, we let communities speak for themselves, and we try to show the Jewish world in all its diversity — religious and secular, ancient and brand-new, near and far.
